Its Hard Not To Be Intimidated But There’s Room For Everybody

I will be coming up on 6 years on blogging in August and honestly sometimes feel I am behind and not where I thought I would be. It seems so hard now with technology changing and everything being so fast paced to keep up (wow I sound old lol). I often feel intimidated by others who have been doing this in a short amount of time and have been reaching the level of success I’ve been trying to reach. I know I shouldn’t question myself but I find myself doing that sometimes.

This industry can really seem over saturated to some and intimidating but there is room for everyone who has the right intentions. Everyone brings something different and unique which is refreshing. You don’t want a bunch of bloggers out here talking the same way, posting about the same thing and just not bringing something different. I have changed my direction of my blog as I have been doing this but feel like I have found my niche. I do this every week because I love it, it is an outlet that is just me outside of everything else I do being a full time working mom, wife and so on. I love interacting and meeting people and just having a connection with others.

I love my online community that is growing and appreciate when people check me when I go off the deep end on my IG stories, give me encouragement and kind words. You guys keep me going when I receive a heartfelt comment that you appreciate me talking about Black Owned Businesses or to keep doing what I’m doing because I’m dope, it just makes my day. It makes forget about that thought of not wanting to do this anymore or being intimidated about someone else’s success.

I honestly get super intimidated at times (maybe a couple times a week…) when I see my fellow blogger friends with all this engagement, people always reposting them and tell others to check them out, the sponsored posts and so on. Please don’t get me wrong, I clap and cheer on their success. I am happy when other bloggers hit their goals and are just out here doing it!

I literally sit at my laptop or on my phone and start to wonder what am I not doing? I go down this rabbit hole of thoughts and start trying to analyze what I can improve on, how can I switch things up, how can I grab my audience better to I can have that engagement, what do I have to do? When those thoughts start, then here comes the self doubt and criticizing and just a lot. I have to stop, take a few steps back and check myself and just remind myself why I do this.

It can get hard out here but you have to remember why you are doing this and stay authentic to yourself. You are allowed those moments of frustration but as the saying IG goes, ” You’re allowed five minutes to be emotional then you gotta be gangster”.

You should not let other people’s success get to you. You just cheer for them, be happy for them and get focused on yourself. You are not in competition with anyone, we are all striving for success and should help each other along the way. I had to learn all of this the hard way and still learning.

Hope you guys have a great weekend and see you Wednesday!

Is Self Care Needed More Than One Day A Week?

I’ll admit, I forget about myself often to the point where I am about to have a meltdown. I work in a pretty stressful environment full time, a full time working mom who hears “Mom” like a million times a day, a wife, side hustle with this Naturalle Drea and so much more. I am always working on something or doing something and it can just be so easy to forget to take care of myself. My mind is always running a million miles a minute trying to focus on work, keeping my household together, remembering to do something, filming and creating content. I am trying to practice more self care but should it be limited to just one day a week?

I see a lot of people dedicating one specific day to self care like #SelfCareSunday on Instagram. I don’t see anything wrong with that but what happens when you step in the door to work on Monday morning and that stress free feeling leaves? Everyone’s life is not the same, there are people who don’t have children or have high stress work environments but what about those who do? I feel you need more than one day of self care help.

I am still learning about what self care is but it is defined as the practice of taking action to preserve one’s own health. I know for a fact that being stressed out almost everyday is not good for your health. It really does take a toll on you and when you have those high stress environments, you really need some self care daily to help you unwind and relax.

Self Care can be so many things like treating yourself to a mani and pedi, a trip to Sephora, at home spa day and so much more. Self Care can also be things not beauty related like reading, journaling, exercising and etc. I try to start my day with some quiet time and prayer. It helps to put me in positive space before the day starts. If you are not religious or pray, you can meditate or sit in silence for a few minutes.

Hopefully there are more good than bad days but for those crazy stressful days, you may need a little more T.L.C. to help you destress. I like to unwind with some of my favorite shows. It helps me not think about the crazy day I had and I get caught up in a fictional world. I also enjoy a glass (maybe more than one) my favorite wine or some calming tea. I also write for 15 minutes a day(not everyday but I’ll say weekly lol) to help clear my head and get all those negative thoughts out. I am not so consistent everyday with everything but I at least do something self care related.

I just feel that self care shouldn’t be limited to just one day. Again, it may be different for some people that need only a day or others may need to practice self care daily. I am one of those who need some kind of daily self care. I just wanted to encourage you to try daily self care to see if it helps or improves your mood.

How do you practice self care? Is it once a week, daily or monthly? Comment below and let me know. Have a great weekend and see you guys Wednesday!

Black Owned Business Feature:Refineful

Can you believe it is March already and still getting snow lol? 2019 has started off pretty interesting, I am ready to see what else the year has in store. Today I will be sharing another Black Owned Business Feature.

I met Ann-Marie Watt, the owner of Refineful at BlogHer last year. She was just so dope, funny and just down to earth. We all had a group of fellow bloggers, entrepreneurs and girl bosses that we found during the conference and stuck together for the two days. Ann-Marie actually had samples of her products that she gave out to everyone and when I first tried her oatmeal soap, I was hooked.

Refineful was created in 2011 following her love of lip balms ( I am notorious for losing lip balms and finding them months later lol). She wanted to create lip balms that kept your lips moisturized and had safe ingredients. After the lip balms, she started creating soaps that are just amazing! The soaps leave your skin feeling moisturized, soft and just clean lol.

The main thing I love about this company is that 10% of the company’s proceeds goes towards Flint Kids. If you are unfamiliar on what is going on in Flint, MI (I highly suggest you educate yourself if you do not), they have been living with contaminated water since 2014 and to this day, it has not been resolved. This touched my heart that she was giving back because it seems like this problem is not a priority and it just needs to be addressed. Every little bit counts so not only are you supporting a Black Owned Business, you are supporting a town in need.

You can check out Refineful right here https://refineful.com and I highly recommend the lip balms of course, the oatmeal and coconut soaps. Let me know if you pick up something and see you guys Thursday.

Black Owned Business Feature: The Precious Home

I can’t believe it is February already! I am so ready for the nice weather to get here, we had a little preview this week but Winter will be back soon lol. Today’s Black Owned Business Feature is a pretty new company and a recommendation from Ivy’s Tea Co(I talk about this company a lot if you haven’t noticed lol). If you guys know me, I love candles and I knew I had to support The Precious Home.

The Precious Home was created by Dacia Page in 2018. The vision for this brand was to create candles to help you enjoy the space you are in. I just love that their philosophy is a this bible verse from Proverbs which fits the company so perfectly: A HOUSE IS BUILT BY WISDOM AND BECOMES STRONG THROUGH GOOD SENSE. THROUGH KNOWLEDGE ITS ROOMS ARE FILLED WILL ALL SORTS OF PRECIOUS RICHES AND VALUABLES(Proverbs 24:3-4) The Precious Home is not just about the candles but is also an Interior Design company and offers E-Designs as well.

What is so unique about The Precious Home’s candles is that they are made with 100% Soy wax and free of dyes. I didn’t realize that some candles contain a lot of harmful ingredients and soy wax is a safer alternative to use for candles. It is also eco friendly and from American grown soy beans. I noticed the difference whenever I burn these candles verses other ones I own. The ones made with soy wax burn so evenly and do not burn the sides of the container.

Whenever I burn one of these candles, it does make home feel better and cozy. I just loves these candles and their unique scents.

They also just launched a massage candle just in time for Valentine’s Day or any relaxing day. I can’t wait to try mine soon!

I highly recommend everything from The Precious Home. You can check them out here: https://www.theprecioushome.comĀ

Please support this Black Owned Business and I will see you guys tomorrow!
