My Wellness Journey

It just hit me one day to really take this serious and get myself together. I think it was when I was getting ready for work or getting ready to go out somewhere and I was just not feeling how I was looking in my clothes. Things weren’t fitting correctly, some items were too small and I was getting frustrated. My initial thought was I had to spend money to get more clothes but then I was like I really need to put it in gear and start getting active again and take better care of myself. I know I can change myself by putting in the work and stop complaining.

I started already by incorporating more water everyday and taking my vitamins. When I can get away from my desk and the weather permitting I take walks during work. It is a start but I need to do more. I recently sat down and came up with a plan to start out this month with my fitness/wellness journey. I know I need to ease into this instead of going full force so I don’t hurt myself and start to establish healthy habits.

The biggest thing I’m doing this month is not drinking alcohol at all. I think we went a little too hard since the pandemic and I just needed a break. After this month, I really want to cut back on the drinking everyday when I get home from work and save it for the weekends and a treat one day during the week. I also want to drink more green tea and more tea in general and cut back on the coffee. I am someone who is a daily coffee drinker and just want to cut back on it. I noticed that I need to find foods with more energy because I rely on the coffee for it. I’ll save the coffee for the weekends as well but I know there are days I am going to need that coffee lol.

And actually, the tea has been replacing the alcohol at night which is good along with sparkling water. I want to get into making mocktails and trying out non alcoholic wine because I heard that they were pretty good. It doesn’t seem so hard but I know there are going to be those days at work where I say that I need a drink afterwards lol.

I also want to do better with eating and know I need to incorporate more fruits and veggies into my daily eating. I have been buying breakfast and lunch too much so I wanted to cut back on it. And it is crazy how expensive it is to eat healthy…why does it cost so much lol. I want to start eating breakfast at home or take it work and also bring my lunch to work. I know it is going to be hard but if I do decide to grab lunch out, I want to make a healthy choice. Plus by bringing breakfast and lunch to work, it saves me so much money.

Lastly is getting active again. I used to be in the gym a few times a week and now that is nonexistent lol. I’m glad I started with the walks at work but just need to do a little more. Starting out by stretching every morning for 5-10 minutes. I’m also going to start light workouts twice a week for 2 weeks this month then add on a day. I’m not sure how many days a week I want to work out but I need to be more active and moving my body more. I also had this idea of learning choreography of music videos I’ve always wanted to learn. Dancing is something I love to do so much and it is great exercise. There was a dance class I was taking regularly before the pandemic hit and I want to get back to that as well. I think it will be fun for me trying to learn these dances and working out at the same time.

I feel like this is such a good start and my goal is drop 15-20 pounds that I have put on and just get back in shape. I want to leave these unhealthy habits behind and move forward feeling better about myself. I’ll be documenting along the way and know I can do this. It is going to be hard but if I want to change, I gotta put in that work.
