First Salon Visit in 10 Plus Years

I can’t believe I actually stepped foot in a hair salon in over 10 years! I’ve been doing my own hair for the longest time and I know a salon visit was needed but it was hard to find someone who specialized in natural hair in my area and I’ve had some bad experiences. I’m fully aware of how thick and ling my hair is and having to hear the stylist complain the entire time about doing my hair, how long my is and all was discouraging and I really felt some type of way about it. Also I don’t like being charged extra for how long my hair is. I was scared to book the appointment but I had a really a pleasant experience.

I did my research and found a Black Owned salon near me and got a silk press (which I feel like is the new name for Press N Curl) and haven’t straightened my hair since 2022. My stylist was very gentle with my hair and made me aware of some dryness and dead ends. I loved that I got a steam treatment and that she showed me the dead end I had before agreeing to cut them. I was at the salon for about 3 hours and love the results. Also my stylist was so nice and we had a great conversation about raising boys, self care and more. This made me want to go back to the salon more often, especially after seeing the condition of my ends. My stylist also deals with natural hair so it would be nice to have someone else do my hair every once in a while and also someone to help keep my hair healthy. Here are some pictures of my hair and I just love it. I already booked another appointment to keep the straight hair until I revert it back.

Do you visit the salon often? Let’s chat.

  1. I don’t visit the salon often . Many times they use a fine tooth comb on my hair . They don’t detangle my hair with care . I did go for Mother’s Day . I hadn’t been before this year since 2019. I enjoyed not having to do my own hair . They weren’t really gentle on my hair though. I’m glad you enjoyed your experience. Hoping I get to that point one day at a salon .
