Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide To Reclaiming Yourself Review

I have to say that I am so proud of myself for finishing a book and it was something that I really needed to read. I saw this book floating around social media and heard nothing but amazing things about it so when I was in Barnes and Nobel with the family one day, I decided to pick it up. I have to say, this book really came for me because it made me aware of the issues I have with setting boundaries.

The first half of the book when into the definition of boundaries, the different types of boundaries, how to identify if you need to set them and how to set them and how to have others honor them. It was really eye opening to read as I had no clue there were 6 types of boundaries (Physical, Sexual, Intellectual, Emotional, Material and Time boundaries) and the author did an amazing job with breaking everything down so you can understand and learn.

There are signs that are present where you actually need to set boundaries which when reading, realized that most of them applied to me: neglecting self care, being overwhelmed, resentment and avoidance. This was just mind blowing to me as I got further into this book.

The second half of the book focused on the different areas in your life where you may need to set boundaries. This all included work, relationships, friends and family. I am one who does not like confrontation or like telling people things about boundaries…hence the reason why I struggle with setting them and getting others to respect them. You are not going to be comfortable with setting boundaries with others, it is not a good feeling at first but once it is in place and it is being respected, it will be worth it. The chapter that stuck out to me the most was the one of setting boundaries with yourself. Like, it was crazy to read about how you need to set boundaries with yourself and stick to them.

Nedra Glover Tawwab did an amazing job with this book and it was something that really eye opening for me and really needed. It made me realize that I have to deal with the uncomfortable feeling of having to set a boundary with someone and with myself. I highly recommend reading this book, such a good read!
