July Goal Update

Again, why is Summer going by so fast? July is just about done and August will be here before you know it. I’m just ready for Rona to make her exit so we can continue on with this new normal and feel better about being out and about. Anyway I’m here to update you all on the goals I set for myself this month.

Working On Revamping Newsletter for August Launch

So about that…..

I was excited about the relaunch but haven’t worked too much on it. I know the relaunch is a few weeks away but I don’t know. I’m just not feeling too excited about it now. I guess I’m letting fear interfere again with worrying if people are going to like it, will more people subscribe, will it be liked this time around? I know I can’t worry about it because those who want to read it will do so and that should be enough. I need to stop putting it off since I already did the research and actually made a logo for it.

I posted the few that I created on IG and got a lot of responses. Out of voting this had the most votes and I actually like this one. It wasn’t the first logo I made but this is sleek and kinda sets the tone for everything.

Finish Becoming by Michelle Obama

As I am typing this, I’m still trying to finish this book lol. I’ve been doing so much and kind of let the book sit for a while. I have picked it up and read a few chapters but I’m determined to finish this before the end of the month which is only a few days away lol. I will be doing a full review on the book when I finish it but I loved reading about how her and Barack met and fell in love. I will finish this book lol.

I did pretty good this month on my goals. I know I slacked a bit but got back on track with things. Time to set goals for August. Do you set weekly or monthly goals? How do you keep track of everything? Let me know. See you guys Thursday!

**~Drea Notes~**

I can’t believe I will have a 9 year old next month. He’s just getting so big and just remember when I brought him home from the hospital and now he’s practically a big kid. I can’t take it.

I’ve been itching to do some makeup looks. I miss creating looks and know I’ll be a bit rusty when I get back into it lol.

Youtube Fridays: Trying The Shingling Method

As I always say, better late than never lol. I know I normally have everything ready to go at 12pm but I was honestly just tired this week (that time of the month) and trying to motivate myself to even edit. I was just in a bit of mood too but I got it together.

In today’s video, I’m trying the shingling method for my wash n go. Normally when you see me do this style, I am doing the raking method and I wanted to try something different and new. It is always good to experience and try things with your hair. I have to say I love how my hair turned out and would try this again.

I also tried out some new products by Honey Baby Naturals. I believe I did a review on their products on my other platform but I love their products. This is also a Latina/black owned business as well. Let me know if you picked up any new products. Have a great weekend and see you Tuesday!

Let’s Talk Skincare Again but Black Owned…..

Besides being a hair and makeup product junkie, I’m starting to become a skincare product junkie lol. I am in my mid 30’s and want to keep my skin looking youthful, healthy and glowing. I feel that skincare is super important, especially if you want that smooth and flawless base before applying makeup. I have combination skin, an oily T-Zone, large pore around my nose area, some dry areas and the rest normal.

I have been making it a point to have majority or close to all of my skincare products from Black Owned Businesses and I am really close it. I just need to find a company to replace the Fresh Black Tea Kombucha Essence and I am all set. Here are a few products that I picked up recently and trying out. I don’t have everything pictured but you’ll hear about them soon.

Annabelle’s Perfect Blend Pink Clay Mask

Roux by Larease Face and Body Mist, Turmeric Face Soap

Elements of Aliel Moisture Balm, Glow Serum

Sugar Goddess Detox and Clarify Purifying Dry Clay Mask

Of course you will get a full in-depth review on each product after I continue to use them for the next couple weeks but spoiler alert….so far so good lol.

What are some of your favorite skincare products? Let me know and see you guys Friday!

So About The Start Of The Second Half Of This Year….

Did you know July is Minority Mental Health Month? I honestly didn’t know myself. I know that May is Mental Health Awareness month but didn’t know there was another month just for minorities. After doing a little research, it started to be formally recognized June 2008.

I honestly wanted to do another mental health check in because this second half of 2020 has been too much. We thought July would come in, sit down and not touch or do anything but this year has been so unpredictable and just a lot. We are just trying to survive and get to 2021 mentally sane and alive. It can really take a toll on someone having to social distance for so long, wondering when this virus will get under control on top of what is happening in the world, praying we don’t have to say another name or post another hashtag for justice and fear of this next presidential election.

I’ve felt a little apprehensive about posting my normal content for a while because of the whole #blacklivesmatter movement and fighting for justice. It has taken a little bit of a toll on me mentally. I wanted to get back to normal but knew I had this platform where I needed to speak out because it was important to me. I am currently raising a son and I’m fighting for him not to grow up in a world where he is not judged by his skin color or has to deal with any of what is currently going on.

I’ve been trying to stay off social media because there is way too much going on and not watching the news so much. It can really take a toll on someone being so over stimulated by everything especially reading about old unsolved cases of an unarmed black man or woman’s murder, people with their opinions about black lives and this country, those grown adults throwing temper tantrums because they have to wear a mask, the drama in the beauty community and so on. It is hard to find a positive, light hearted good story these days because everyone is talking about the negative and what’s currently going on. It is a lot. On the other hand, my consistency is starting to pay off. It is just hard when your hard work is starting to pay off and you need to take a mental break from social media.

I just hope and pray the rest of 2020 is gentle and calming for us. I hope we get a break from all of the tears, anger, debating, heartache and just everything mentally straining. We are tired and we just want a break. I don’t think that is too much to ask for right??

So how are you doing mentally? Are you taking breaks from the social media world?
